On Thursday, 5th of September, Bali WISE Recruitment had a socialization trip to Ubud Gianyar and Bangli. She visited one school, one orphanage and one foundation to socialized about Bali WISE Education Program. This socialization trip aims to reach a more marginalized student who has a strong desire to get a better education. 17 students participated in the socialization and the number of students participating in the socialization was 17 students and 7 students joined the selection English test. Asides of having the socialization, our Recruitment officer also did the upcycled soap distribution for students at Gurukula high school.
Bali WISE Basic Education Class | Intake 41 – Week 8 | Barista Training | Thurs, 29th Aug 2019 – Nyoman’s Beer Garden
As part of their curriculum, Bali WISE students headed to Nyoman’s Beer Garden Bar & Restaurant to have Barista training. Students had the chance to learn about coffee and Barista. The class started with a coffee presentation and theory, where they explore how specialty coffee is grown and processed. The training was continued with tasting coffee beans, each student tried to taste and classified the coffee beans from two different varieties of coffee. Arabica coffee beans are more oval and flat in shape, and pack a sweeter, lighter, smoother taste also have more oils in the beans, so can pack more fruity and sweet flavors. Robusta coffee is slightly smaller and rounder in shape and packs a stronger, bitter, powerful taste, less oils, often has more natural, earthy and heavier flavors. Now students able to distinguished type of coffee based on shape and taste.
Students learned about the coffee machine and the function, each student tried to operate an espresso machine and grinder, continued with practice steaming milk to make foam in right texture and temperature to make cappuccino and coffee latte. Students were also learned how to pour latte art, they take turns to make latte art guided by Nyoman’s Beer Garden Barista. Students showed great enthusiasm during the training, hopefully, all of these skills and knowledge will provide a great foundation for their future job prospects.
Bali WISE Basic Education Class | Intake 41 – Week 8 | Fire prevention training | Wed, 18th Aug 2019 – Pak Widi.
Fire prevention training with Pak Widi from UPT BPBD Bali. This Training aims to provide them with insight into the first steps that must be raised when a fire occurs at the Workplace. Pak Widi shared knowledge about what causes fire at the workplace, how to handle and how to evacuate the guests. The most important point is not to be panic. During the training, Basic students of Bali WISE so enthusiastic to learn how to extinguish the fire and how to keep themselves calm if there are fires near them. There are two methods to extinguish a fire, traditional and modern. The students were very excited to try both methods. Each student takes turns to practice how to extinguish the fire with traditional methods using a wet cloth and modern method using fire extinguisher chemical powder. All of the students are very brave to extinguish the fire.
Bali WISE Basic Class | Intake 41 – Week 7 | F&B Product Class | Wed, 21st Aug 2019 | Basic Students | Teacher: Ms. Dee
As part of their curriculum, Bali WISE students experience a whole new level of participation with hands-on experience in the kitchen department activities. This food and beverage class were held at Zero Waste to Oceans – Community Environment & Skills Center, students were learned on how to make Pasta. The skills taught by Ms. Dee to enrich our student skills to set for their vocational training at 5 stars hotel. Our students have a good understanding of the kitchen department in a hotel. Their lesson included the practical experience of combining pasta and the sauce. Students very enthusiastic to get to know more about this subject and not only learned how to make many kinds of pasta, but they also learned how to make pasta sauces and how to preserve them. Hopefully, all of these practices will provide a great foundation for their future job prospects.
Bali WISE Basic Education Class | Intake 41 – Week 7 | Fruits & Vegetables Carving Workshop | Monday, Aug 19th 2019 – Mr. Arip
As part of the curriculum, Bali WISE students had fruit and vegetable workshop. The art of carving fruit and vegetable is within reach of everyone. From mere initiation to advanced improvement, Bali WISE gives an added advantage to students to acquire and to master the arts of fruit & vegetable carving.
The art of carving fruits and vegetables originated during the period Sukhothai in the 14th century in Thailand. For our students to acquire this art, we organize Fruit Carving Workshop sessions by Mr. Arip the Master of Fruit and vegetable carving. The objectives of this workshop session are for students to learn basic gestures and techniques of carving fruits & vegetables then they able to combine beauty and finesse.
This workshop was held 3 times. At the first meeting, students learn about the basic carving theory and techniques and they begin to practice the theories they have learned. At the second meeting, the students carved large fruits such as watermelons and papaya, the progress of their carving skills is very good they had produced very beautiful shapes. At the third meeting, the students deepened their carving skills and also learned to string up carved fruits and vegetables into a very beautiful object with the Bali WISE logo on it.
Our students were very excited to have a firsthand experience of carving skills.
