Gita was born as the second child in Sidoarjo, East Java. When Gita was in high school, she was active in youth organizations like Paskibraka and joined the dance club. She lived only with her mother, since her father passed away in 2016 because of kidney disease. Her mother was trying hard to make a living for them, working casually as a cleaner or helping neighbors which provided her with a daily income of only IDR 20.000 (US $ 1.50). Gita could not go to college because the little income they had was used for the costs of her father’s medical treatment. That forced her to take on a poorly paid job at a food stall in order to further support her father. Unfortunately, a few months ago her father passed away.
And then Gita found out about the Bali WISE program. With the knowledge and experience she will gain in the six-month program, she aims at getting a quality job in order to ease the burden of her mother and make her father proud.
