Ayu Riska comes from Karangasem, East Bali. Her family used to rely on farming as their main source of income. But due to the Mount Agung volcanic activity, Ayu and her family had to leave their village and stay at the refugee camp, remaining without any income. To improve the situation, Ayu looked for employment and worked as shop keeper, earning IDR 1.000.000 (approx. USD 76) per month which she then gave to her parents to meet the family’s needs. In October, her aunt shared information about Bali WISE and encouraged her to join the program to get a better education and as a bridge to connect her to the hotel industry. Now, Ayu Riska is enrolled in Bali WISE and ready to learn and tackle the opportunities that come. Her main focus is to get a quality job so she could support her family and have a better quality of life.
