Ayu is the fourth child of five siblings in her family. Her first and third sister are married, her second sister works as a doctor’s assistant, and her little brother is still studying in secondary school. Her father used to work as construction worker, but since he got hernia, he had to stop working. Her mother is a tailor. The family’s monthly income is around IDR 1,500,000 (approx. USD 110). When Ayu was still in first grade, her parents ran out of money and could not continue paying for her formal education anymore and she had to quit going to school. She eventually continued her education, when her parents were able to pay for Paket C, an informal equivalent for formal high school education. After that, Ayu tried to find a job but did not have enough experience and did not get accepted. She joined Bali WISE and is now trained to get more knowledge and skills that will enable her to finally find good employment.
