Laely was born in Cilacap, a rural area in Central Java. After her parents got divorced when she was one year old she lived with her grandparents. Her mother remarried when she was 2 years old, and her father passed away 10 years later. Her grandfather is the one who raised and takes care of Laely until now. But he is just a laborer with an irregular daily income. Thus, Laely started working as an account officer with a monthly salary of IDR 750.000 (around US $ 50) to reduce the burden of her grandfather.
Laely faced a lot of difficulties, growing up in a rural environment where the majority still holds the principle that education is not important, especially not for women who are destined to become housewives. But these challenges make Laely try even harder to prove that education is the key to providing better futures for her and her community. She heard about Bali WISE program from her friend who is a former alumnae here. Laely wants to study hard to be able to support her grandparents. Her biggest goal is to study hospitality management in the future.
