Wayan Nastri comes from Karangasem, East Bali. Her parents are farmers with an income of approximately IDR 1.000,000 (approx. US $ 70) per month. Nastri had to face poverty at an early stage, when trying to save money for school costs was always an issue. She used to help weaving mats in order to be able to buy gasoline since the distance from home to school was quite far.
Fortunately, she received support from a foundation based in Karangasem which covered her school fees until she graduated from High school. She never complained about her economy situation, while all she ever dreamt of was being able to change her family’s life for the better. Bali WISE gives hope to her, that she will be able to realize her dreams and have a better future.
