Coming from Bangli, North Bali, Sukerni is the youngest of 5 siblings and the only child in the family that graduated from high school. Her parents were laborers, earning around IDR 600.000 (approx. USD 44) per month, but it has been already two years since they could no longer work anymore, due to health issues. In July 2016, after graduating from high school, Sukerni worked at a coffee shop in Gianyar, earning IDR 1.100.000 (approx. USD 80) per month, which she used to support her family’s needs. She received information about the Bali WISE program from one of our current vocational students and decided to take the opportunity to continue her studies at Bali WISE. After she passed the screening test, she was accepted to enroll in the program for the period of January-July 2018. Her goal after she completes the Bali WISE program, is to work as a receptionist at a five star hotel. Now, she is focusing on practicing her English and communication skills.
