Nonik is the eldest child of three; her first sister is still in elementary school and her youngest one is only five years old. Her father works as a grape farmer, while her mother is a ‘canang’ maker (traditional religious offerings). All together, her family makes only around IDR 500,000 per month (approx. USD 36). After she graduated from senior high school, she wanted to attend university, but with a meager income that barely covers their daily needs, her parents had no chance to afford this further education. This led to her decision to join Bali WISE. She aims to gain more skills to get a better job and help her parents to support the education of her sisters.
