Sustainable Opportunity Achieving Possibilities – this is what our S.O.A.P. Recycling Program stands for. It contributes to creating a healthier environment by reducing the soap-waste of Bali’s tourism industry that enters the ocean. By collecting, sanitizing, and reprocessing used hospitality soap, we not only reduce waste, but also give at-risk women a safe employment. At the same time, we help Balis’s most disadvantaged by donating the produced recycled soap bars to orphanages, marginalized children’s schools and humanitarian programs helping old people and the poor as well as special groups in need such as the Mount Agung refugees.
In a few days between 29th December 2017 and 4th January 2018, we collected 28,3 kg of used soap from our 18 hotel partners.
Before in November, we have produced 1.120 recycled soap bars of which 1.022 pieces were distributed to orphanages and non-profit organizations. The remaining soap bars were given away as souvenirs to visitors at our Bali WISE campus and at events where Bali WISE or ROLE Foundation was present.
Detailed information regarding soap collection, production, and distribution can be seen below:
