The threat of human trafficking continues to rise every year. According to data from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), 61% of detected victims globally are women and girls. Fully mindful of this reality, Bali WISE is committed to educating our students about human trafficking. Guided and supported by Kak Aris, 29 Bali WISE students actively participated in an Anti-Human Trafficking Workshop.
Recognize, Prevent, and Overcome Human Trafficking
On August 10, 2026, students gathered and filled the classroom at the Bali WISE campus. The session opened with an illustrative video on human trafficking. Visible reactions of fear, anger, and sadness washed over the students’ faces, which was a clear reflection of how dangerous and alarming this issue truly is. Next, Kak Aris guided the students through visual illustrations depicting various types of human trafficking. Through this interactive approach, Kak Aris led an open discussion, breaking down each form of trafficking and identifying the key warning signs to watch out for.
The session continued with a deep dive into the common tactics used by perpetrators to target victims. According to UNODC data, the most widespread scheme involves fraudulent job offers. Given that Bali WISE students are primarily focused on entering the workforce, this poses a particularly serious threat. With Kak Aris’s guidance, each student learned to spot dangerous red flags, both subtle and overt, serving as a vital first step in preventing them from falling trap to human trafficking.
Next, students watched a video snippet featuring Indonesian human trafficking survivors. They watched with mixed emotions, but concluded with a sense of relief and hope. From the video snippet and real-life cases presented by Kak Aris, the students identified concrete ways to overcome and handle human trafficking situations, such as seeking help, contacting authorities, and finding the courage to speak up and acknowledge what is happening.
Pursuing Dreams Free from the Shadow of Human Trafficking
The session concluded with a group photo alongside Kak Aris, creating a meaningful keepsake and a fresh start as Intake 66 prepares to step out into the world. Anti-Human Trafficking Workshops are a mandatory part of the curriculum for every intake at Bali WISE. Because women statistically make up the majority of trafficking victims, this workshop provides an essential foundation. It equips our students to remain vigilant regarding this global issue and empowers them to protect themselves as they embark on their respective career journeys.
