To celebrate our partnership with Cuca Restaurant as well as to improve the Vocational Training students’ performance, we conducted an interview session with one of Cuca’s staff and Bali WISE trainees in Cuca Restaurant.

Interview with Trainees from Bali WISE

  • During your Vocational Training in Cuca Restaurant, what have you learned?

The Culinary trainees learned to do plate presentations, to be a professional chef, learned how to cook various menus, how to keep the food quality, and experienced working in a professional kitchen. On the other hand, the Food and Beverage Service trainees learned how to welcome and escort guests, how to be a food and beverage runner, storing groceries using FIFO (First in First Out) method, setting up tables, learning about menus and ingredients, types of food allergies, polishing cutleries, and managing finances.

  • Describe how the 1st three months of the Bali WISE Program, being Hospitality and Life Skills Education, helped you to do the job training in your department?

Three months might sound short, but in this time they learned about the basics of hospitality, and especially their English skills heavily improved during this period, which helped them to adapt to Cuca Restaurant where English skills are required, and made them feel more comfortable performing their tasks.

  • What is your impression of Cuca Restaurant and Bali WISE?

Both places leave a good impression on the students. Bali WISE is the place where they were given an opportunity to continue their education for free and learn about basic hospitality businesses, while Cuca Restaurant is the place where they learn and experience working in a professional environment with various people.

Interview with Cuca Restaurant

  • What are the difficulties in handling the trainees, especially from Bali WISE?

Although the trainees from Bali WISE are relatively easy to handle, they need more improvement on their confidence and social skills.

  • What are your impressions of trainees from Bali WISE?

The trainees from Bali WISE perform well during training, have a good attitude, easy to work with, and well-groomed. They may lack a little knowledge in some aspects, but there is always room for improvement.

  • Any suggestions to improve the performance of the Bali WISE trainees/students?

Working in Cuca Restaurant is about constant practice and learning by doing, which can be a good solution to improve the trainees’ performance.

The interview results were collected from one of Cuca’s training staff and seven students who are currently doing their Vocational Training in Cuca Restaurant. Not only it was constructive feedback, but this interview also helped us identify the progress of the Bali WISE students. We are always determined to improve the quality of Bali WISE graduates to increase their opportunities to get quality employment.
