In pursuit of our mission to extend the impact of the Bali WISE program to diverse communities in Indonesia, the Bali WISE recruitment team embarked on a successful journey to Ende Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, in the last month of the year. The primary objective was to conduct program socialization and direct recruitment efforts in collaboration with Bapak Nando, a local community leader focusing on youth development in Ende, to facilitate the socialization efforts. The targeted institutions included:

  1. SMAK St. Petrus Ende
  2. SMK Negeri Detusoko
  3. SMKN 1 Ende
  4. Lepalio Caffee x RMC Detusoko

Achievements and Observations:

  • During the visit, the team received warm and receptive welcomes from all the schools visited. The booming development of hotels and resorts in the area highlighted the program’s potential to contribute to enhancing management systems in the tourism sector.
  • The team successfully socialized the program and conducted direct recruitment through on-site interviews with the applicants. A considerable number of students expressed interest and enrolled in the program, they will conducting the selection process after their graduation in April 2024. Notably, 10 young women participated in direct selection interviews at Lepalio Caffee.
  • The community’s enthusiasm was evident as participants traveled from various villages to participate in direct selection. Moreover, students and parents actively sought additional information about the program, underscoring the community’s genuine interest and support.
  • The team also got the opportunity to collaborate with Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) to broadcast information about the program further.

Recommendations for Future Visits:

  1. Maintain regular communication with local partners to ensure a seamless itinerary.
  2. Adapt to local community culture and varying weather conditions in each location.
  3. Be prepared for diverse challenges, including road conditions and school locations.
  4. Increase preparedness by bringing additional application forms for direct applications.

Challenges and Considerations:

It is crucial to acknowledge that the visited area faces challenges in community development, notably lower proficiency in English communication skills. Despite this, the team recognizes the potential and motivation of the students to learn and contribute to their families and communities. The challenge lies in enhancing communication skills and confidence during the program, keeping in mind the determination and motivation exhibited by the participants.

Conclusion:

The Bali WISE recruitment team’s mission to Ende Regency was a resounding success, with positive reception and active participation from the local community. The team looks forward to the upcoming selection process and the opportunity to contribute to the development of the participants and the region’s hospitality sector. The experience gained from this visit will serve as a valuable foundation for future outreach efforts in similar communities.
