Brainstorm with Alumni in Java

August 10, 2020 By //  by roledmin Leave a Comment

Bali WISE had a virtual meeting with 6 Alumni who are living in Java. Three of them have a job and another three are still struggling to look for it.

Here is what Bali WISE gets from the discussion.

What have you done so far to get a job?

The alumni have applied to many companies and revised their curriculum vitae. Three of them, Rosita, Felia, and Maria, have a job as digital marketing in a property company, household assistants, and freelance writer. They do every job to earn money and improve their skill. The problem that the alumni encounter often is about the location. Even Though the interview went well and they got the job, they are not allowed to travel due to many reasons.

Another three, Devi, Widiawati, and Tika, weren’t lucky enough to have a chance of earning money. They have been riding around the town to get a job. Some of them have no phone or laptop that makes it harder to find a job.

Do you ever think of the idea to be an entrepreneur or freelancer? Maybe teaching, or selling secondhand clothes online, or writing the article and selling it online?

Yes, they write an article, collect clothes from their friends and sell it online, and an English honorary teacher in a primarily high school near their house. One of them even published the short story of the anthology book with her pen friend.

Do you encounter any specific problems in finding a job because you are a woman? (Especially in Java Region, what’s make it different)

Some jobs require men. The company said that it needs man strength and intuition.

In the difficulties, they keep trying to look for a job and earn money. Even without a phone or laptop, it’s not stopping them. Sometimes they have to borrow their friend’s phone or laptop for the interview. The internet connection is also a problem. When BaliWISE was having virtual with the alumni, they had to walk to a place that has a good internet connection

You can help them by sharing this information

Bali WISE is looking for companies in Java that are currently looking for staff. If you own or know someone who is looking for staff please informed us by email hr@baliwise.org. We can guarantee that our student is a hard worker and will adapt to their workplace in no time.
