Different Cut, Have Different Name

January 29, 2019 By //  by roledmin Leave a Comment

Is it tenderloin or sirloin? Which one is belly bacon? All of that questions are today learning topic for Intake 39 Student. Ms. Lili, our F&B Product teacher, taught them different cuts of beef and pork. Some of our students are not aware of the English name for each cut and today is their chance to memorize it. Not only beef and pork, Ms. Lili, also taught them about the different types of spices and what are they used for.

For our students who are enrolling as a chef for their vocational training, these skills are very beneficial for them. Often times, living in a financially challenged area, our student didn’t even know that each beef and pork cut have different names and the spices that they know of are more likely introduced to them using their traditional language or Bahasa Indonesia by their family. To become a 5 stars hotel chef who will someday accept a Michelin Star (we hope!) they need to understand kitchen language better than anyone.

Living in this new era of technology, we can’t afford to not make our student tech-savvy as well. Computer skills are a very important aspect for their career. Today class with Ms. Komang, Intake 39 student are learning how to write a CV and made a presentation on PowerPoint. With these skills, our student learned how and what to put in a CV while also trained their presentation skills. Presentation, in particular, is a great addition for their skill tree, not many schools in Indonesia provide presentation skills, especially in the financially challenged area.
