Ni Wayan Slamet Wardani also known as Slamet comes from Kusamba Village in Bali’s Klungkung Regency. Slamet is the eldest of three children. She has two younger brothers and sisters who are still attending school. Her father is a construction worker with a monthly salary of IDR 1.500.000, while her mother is a housewife. Her family does not have their own home so they live with her grandparents, along with her aunt and uncle.
Slamet wants to continue her studies, but she could not afford it so she worked instead. After graduating from high school, Slamet has worked at Aroma Resto Jimbaran for 2 years as a waitress. However, due to the pandemic, it was closed the possibility to continue her work. At that time she found information about Bali WISE on social media. She applied to and was accepted to the Bali WISE program in January 2021.
During the program, she spent three months training as a Food and Beverage Product at Tjili Benoa. She graduated from Bali WISE in July 2021 and worked as a cook at Living Barn Indonesia for three months before applying for work in the Maldives. She now works as a waitress at Bread Matter Maldives, where she earns $400 per month. Every month, she sends more than half of her salary to her family in Bali for their daily necessities and to pay the dept of departure abroad.
