Restyling? Why not!

January 29, 2020 By //  by roledmin Leave a Comment

Last week the students had sewing projects by recycling old clothes to become something that we can donate to charity, sell or use them on our own. Also creating awareness of clothing recycling. Restyling, upcycling are all ways of eking a bit of extra life out of a garment. It does not only help the environment but also makes the students more creative.

After some discussion, they decided to make bags. We appreciate Ms. Ane for volunteering by helping, communicating and discusses with our students. They learn the basics of hand-sewing and information about the importance and benefit of recycling the used item.

Making a bag of their own is a wonderful challenge. Some students said It’s even more satisfying about making things on their own then it becomes something useful. Yes! The joy of constructing something with your hands never gets old. They are blissful with the result. They bring it home and use it on their own.

Recycling for the Win!

January 31, 2019 By //  by roledmin Leave a Comment

Did you know that the average person in America used 340kg of papers per day? Now Imagine how many papers turn into waste? How many tress are cut down just to end up in the landfill? Intake 39 students are learning the importance of paper recycling and how to do it themselves. Before the class began, Mr. Manaf instructed the students to collect unused recyclable papers from Bali WISE office and bring it to the Community Environment & Skills Center. Mr. Manaf explained the step by step of how to make recycled paper. Our students are very eager to learn about this new technique since the finished products can be made into beautiful notebooks according to their own creativity.

Recycling training is very important for our students. Living in a marginalized area, they rarely received any waste management training, let alone recycling. With paper recycling, our student can now make their own notebook, instead of buying one from the market all the time and they also learned how to save money and saving the environment at the same time!
