Cooking Pumpkin Soup!

On Monday, August 27, 2018, Bali WISE students Intake 37 had a cooking class. They had the special recipe to practice. It was cooking soups and stocks. The students were introduced to some ways and cook preparation for the recipe. Besides, they learned to differentiate the herbs and spices to make the soups, measure the soup ratio as well as choose the vegetables for the stocks. They were really excited to join the class because it gave them better understanding of how to cook the varieties of soups and stocks. The students sequentially taking their turn in practicing the cooking. This class provides an important learning for the students especially those who want to focus their career in F&B Production.

Recruitment Visit to Bangli!

On Friday, August 31 2018, the Recruitment Officer had the recruiting visit to Bangli and Gianyar area. We are still on the time of opening the registration for October term. We visited three places: two foundations and one school. We did the socialization as well as contributed the Bali WISE soaps.

1. SMA Gurukula Bangli
The first visit of the recruitment was SMA Gurukula Bangli on Friday, August 31 2018. The school is part of the foundation based in Bangli named Yayasan Pasraman Gurukula. There were 23 students who joined the socialization. All are the students in the final year of high school and are going to graduate next year. The students were attentive in the process and the end of the socialization; there were 5 students who were willing to join the first test. They will be considered to enroll the April term 2019 once they graduated from high school.

2. SMK N 3 Kintamani
The second place visited was SMK N 3 Kintamani. The school was first built on 2009 and it was the first time of the recruitment officer to visit the school. There were 83 students joined the socialization who are in the final year of the grade. As they would only capable to enroll the Bali WISE after they graduate next year, we did not do the direct test despite the amount of the students who were interested to join. However, we asked them to list down their names as well as the phone number for us contacting once they are close to graduate next year. There were 30 students who filled the list to join the Bali WISE.

3. Bali Children’s Project
The last visit the recruitment officer had was Bali Children’s Project. Based in Ubud, Bali Children’s Project is a foundation which dedicates to help the children in Bali to break free from the poverty through education. There were 16 students who are in the final year of high school joined the socialization and were interested to join Bali WISE once they graduate next year. The students listed down their names and phone number to be contacted when they are near to graduate. In addition, we also donated the Bali WISE soap to be given to the children under Bali Children’s Project foundation.

Menikah Dini: Belenggu bagi Hak Perempuan

Kebebasan dan kemerdekaan memang sudah lama didapatkan oleh Negara Indonesia. Kemerdekaan ini didapatkan dengan jerih payah para pahlawan bangsa yang berani pasang badan untuk Indonesia keluar dari belenggu penjajahan. Tapi rasanya hal ini menjadi janggal ketika kita kembali menengok kondisi demografi negara tercinta ini.

Wanita mungkin adalah pihak yang dapat dikatakan masih dalam “belenggu penjajahan” ini. Bukan dengan senjata, namun dengan budaya, atau permasalahan ekonomi. Hal ini mungkin jarang dialami oleh para wanita yang berada di sekitar perkotaan, namun para wanita yang berada di bagian pelosok Indonesia dihantui dengan kenyataan ini.

Pendidikan yang rendah, permasalahan ekonomi, hingga tradisi turun-temurun memaksa para wanita untuk memendam mimpinya untuk menjadi manusia yang lebih baik. Pernikahan dini menjadi salah satu dari sekian banyak permasalahan yang dihadapi oleh para perempuan remaja di daerah pelosok Indonesia. Beberapa orangtua mungkin berasumsi dengan menikahkan anak perempuannya, akan sedikit

Meringankan beban mereka. Pendidikan bagi anak perempuan menjadi cadangan nomor kesekian untuk diakses karena dianggap pendidikan tidak akan memberikan hasil yang signifikan bagi kemajuan ekonomi keluarga jika dimiliki oleh perempuan. Maka yang terjadi adalah banyak perempuan berusia dibawah 18 tahun yang terpaksa harus menikah karena berbagai faktor, seperti untuk membayar hutang, meringankan beban tanggungan keluarga, tradisi menikah muda dari kebudayaan dan sebagainya.

Data yang dirilis oleh UNICEF menunjukkan sekitar 1,3 juta perempuan di Indonesia telah menikah sebelum usianya 18 tahun pada 2012 dengan berbagai faktor pendorong seperti kondisi ekonomi serta akses pendidikan dan pengetahuan. Hal ini menjadi masalah karena masa muda yang seharusnya dugunakan untuk belajar sebanyak-banyaknya dan mengeksplor dirinya, malah harus terkekang oleh kewajiban setelah menikah tanpa tahu kondisi yang akan dihadapi selanjutnya.

Dengan tidak adanya persiapan yang matang serta pendidikan dan pengetahuan yang memadai, hal ini tentunya akan berdampak kepada masalah psikis remaja yang cenderung labil. Tidak adanya pengetahuan seperti pengelolaan keuangan, urusan rumah tangga serta pengambilan keputusan menjadikan kondisi rumah tangga tersebut bukanlah menjadi lingkungan yang baik bagi anggota keluarga di dalamnya karena ketidaksiapan dalam membangun keluarga.

Bahkan kehidupan yang lebih baik seperti mendapatkan pekerjaan dan penghidupan yang layak bagi para wanita untuk masa depannya tidak bisa didapatkan akibat tidak dapat meneruskan pendidikannya terlebih dahulu. Alhasil, hal ini juga akan berdampak pada generasi selanjutnya. Jika dibiarkan, roda kemiskinan dan tradisi pernikahan di usia dini tanpa persiapan ini akan terus berputar dan berulang hingga generasi selanjutnya.

 

Dengan pendidikan yang layak serta kesempatan untuk mendapatkan haknya, wanita mampu berkontribusi dalam perekonomian keluarga dan menyiapkan dirinya untuk mengatur masa depannya saat membangun keluarga kelak, serta menjadi perempuan yang cerdas dalam mendidik generasi penerus bangsa selanjutnya. Wanita juga dapat ikut serta dalam usaha pertumbuhan ekonomi negara dengan kontribusinya melalui pajak penghasilan dari pekerjaan yang didapatkan sehingga pendidikan yang dimiliki menjadi bermanfaat bagi orang-orang disekitarnya.

F&B Production Practical – Intake 37

Intake 37 students had an F&B Production practical class. In this week’s session, they had a cutting techniques lesson. They learned about 5 types of cutting techniques, specifically on potatoes which are Julienne, Brunoise, Batonnet, Paysanne, and Mirepoix. The students had their own turn to try each technique in cutting the potatoes and got scored by how perfect it turned. This class provides an important learning for the students especially those who want to focus their career in F&B Product. Have a lot of fun in learning, Girls!

Waste Management Class

Bali WISE Intake 37 students had a Waste Management class. This class focus on reducing, reusing, and recycling material waste with the overall goal reduce waste in their surroundings. Moreover,  the students were also involved in waste reduction projects explore topics of how humans interact with the world around them including the use of natural resources, impacts on the land, water, air, and other living things in a local environment. This class will make them think about their actions and learn to make their own choices. The students begin to develop a sense of wonder about the world around them and will understand the importance of caring for the Earth.

As the practical session, the students were asked to divide the trashes; the recyclable and unrecyclable waste. They were given one minute to finish the mission. The students were all enthusiastic to join the class as it gave them many new insights about managing the waste around them. Keep the environment clean and sustainable, Girls!
