At the beginning of the starting new intake 51, on 12th October 2022 Courtyard by Marriott Bali Nusa Dua was visiting Bali WISE students for a workshop about women and careers. The workshop was in the ZeroWaste Center and three management members of Courtyard came to the venue.
Women and the Opportunity in Hospitality Industry
Over the past 60 years, the hospitality industry has changed significantly, especially regarding women and gender equality. Along with the growth and globalization of the sector, opportunities for women to fill an active role within this field have greatly increased.
Today, women work in this profession in a range of positions, such as culinary and housekeeping staff front-line customer service to senior management professionals.
It has taken years for this equality to be widely recognized, despite the fact that everyone is working toward it and that the hospitality sector has proven to be a good example of it. To achieve that equality, there are two important things to do namely offering a fairer wage policy and giving more opportunities to women into management roles.
The Career Talk from Courtyard
As Bali WISE works with young women, it is believed that this talk could widen the mindset and students’ hope that careering in the hospitality industry is not impossible. The talk was delivered by Mrs. Tita, the Human Resource Manager of Courtyard, and they also presented two other women that have a position in Courtyard. Their presence mirrors that women also can have important roles in the hospitality industry. The Bali WISE students were informed on how to build and recognize the passion that could bring up to achieve their desired career in the future.
