Coastal and marine pollution has become a critical concern for the southern coast of Bali, driven largely by floating marine debris and daily local activities. Because Kedonganan Beach in Jimbaran is a vital hub for local livelihoods and tourism, preventing environmental damage is essential to safeguarding the local economy. Recognizing this urgency, Bali WISE is committed to equipping students with the knowledge and hands-on experience needed to tackle these real-world challenges.
Cleanup Operation at Kedonganan Beach
On Friday, May 15, 2026, 31 enthusiastic students from Bali WISE Intake 65 rolled up their sleeves for a beach cleanup organized by the R.O.L.E. Foundation. Waking up early, they left the dormitory at 6:00 AM to head toward Kedonganan Beach. Full of energy, with sand on their hands and feet, they combed the shoreline specifically to target inorganic waste. Working alongside dedicated staff and volunteers, the team successfully collected 176.85 kg of inorganic trash in just a few hours, transforming environmental awareness into immediate, impactful action.
The Art of Identifying and Sorting Waste Categories
After finishing the cleanup, the students headed to the ZeroWaste Center in Sawangan, Nusa Dua, to sort the inorganic trash they had collected. Guided by environmentalists and staff, the students learned to identify and categorize different types of synthetic materials. This hands-on process allowed them to recognize the sheer variety of inorganic waste and understand the alarmingly long time these materials take to decompose. Ultimately, this eye-opening experience helps build their awareness to use consumer products more wisely in their daily lives.

By participating in both of these activities, Bali WISE students develop a deeper awareness of environmental issues and a strong discipline toward conservation. They learn to consume products more wisely and actively engage in preventing the ecological damage caused by waste.
