In today’s world, challenges surrounding mental health have become a frequent cause for concern. This is especially true given the prevailing stereotypes about the current generation, who are often labeled as mentally fragile. In reality, every generation faces unique challenges specific to its time. To navigate these hurdles, everyone needs to develop mental health management skills to equip themselves for daily life, social interactions, and the workplace.

Recognizing this vital need, Bali WISE organized a workshop titled “Mental Health Awareness” on May 29, 2026. Led by Miss Deta from Empowering Awareness Asia, the session was enthusiastically attended by 31 students from Intake 65, alongside the Bali WISE staff.

From Awareness to Action and Exploring the Mental Health Spectrum

The session began with an engaging introduction by Miss Deta, who invited the students and staff to collectively define what mental health truly means. She explained that mental well-being exists in various levels, each carrying its own distinct characteristics and indicators. This eye-opening discussion revealed a perspective many had never considered before, which is that mental health is a spectrum, and that we often overlook subtle warning signs that are hiding in plain sight.

The workshop then shifted its focus to understanding stress. Miss Deta challenged the common misconception that stress is entirely negative by introducing its two distinct forms: positive stress, which can motivate us, and negative stress. With great enthusiasm, the students and staff explored how stress manifests across thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Equally crucial was learning to identify individual vulnerability factors, such as psychological, biological, and social-environmental triggers, which allow for a more targeted and effective approach to managing pressure.

To wrap up the session, Miss Deta introduced a practical approach to managing potential mental health challenges, which is the 3R concept consisting of Realize, Recognize, and Regulate. This framework teaches individuals to first become fully aware of what they are feeling, next identify the underlying triggers, and finally regulate those emotions. The students practiced techniques to redirect anxiety through constructive physical movements that release tension safely and healthily, equipping them with tools they can use both in their personal lives and future careers.

Putting Knowledge into Practice for a Balanced Future

To bring the workshop to a meaningful close, the students were divided into five groups for an interactive final activity. They were tasked with collaborating to identify the specific emotions they experience while studying at school and living in the dormitory, mapping out the exact triggers and factors involved. Together, the teams formulated practical solutions to address each challenge, sketching their ideas on paper before stepping up to the front of the class to present their findings.

This hands-on session demonstrated that mental health is a deeply real, tangible part of daily life, proving that personal awareness is essential for managing our well-being. Regardless of societal stereotypes comparing the emotional strength of different generations, recognizing and managing mental health is a universal necessity. Through this workshop, Bali WISE aims to empower students to become emotionally intelligent individuals who can confidently manage their well-being as they enter the professional world. Ultimately, this session serves to guide and equip our students to be mentally independent while continuing to support those around them.
