Bali NGO

Bali WISE starting again with 13 students

Bali WISE is very pleased to announce the start of intake 44. After having been closed for 8 months since March 2020, the Bali WISE program has welcomed 13 students from Bali. Starting this month November, the students will follow the educational training program. As all students are Balinese, they will stay at the campus during the week and are allowed to return to their families on the weekends.

New normal protocol
All students were tested before they came to the campus. To create a safe place for both students and teachers, Bali Wise is following the health protocol that is issued by the Indonesian government. Mask requirements for teachers and students, regular airing of classrooms, are all measurements taken to ensure the students, teachers and staff’s safety. In order to meet the social distancing requirements, the class sizes have been reduced and there’s a minimum distance of 1 meter between the desk in the classroom. And all teachers, students and staff need to wash their hands before entering the campus.

Temporary limitations to the program
The 13 students have started the educational part of the Bali WISE program, which exist of 3 months of educational training -in English, hospitality training, environmental training, safety including Covid-19 measures, sexual education- and 3 months of internship at one of the upmarket resorts in Nusa Dua. As soon as tourism in Bali is opening up, the educational training will be followed up with the 3-month internship.

Bali WISE provides the 13 young women not only education, but also food and accommodation, uniforms, educational books, and a monthly allowance. And there is an additional cost, like the maintenance of the building, electricity cost, teachers and staff salary.

Menikah Dini: Belenggu bagi Hak Perempuan

Kebebasan dan kemerdekaan memang sudah lama didapatkan oleh Negara Indonesia. Kemerdekaan ini didapatkan dengan jerih payah para pahlawan bangsa yang berani pasang badan untuk Indonesia keluar dari belenggu penjajahan. Tapi rasanya hal ini menjadi janggal ketika kita kembali menengok kondisi demografi negara tercinta ini.

Wanita mungkin adalah pihak yang dapat dikatakan masih dalam “belenggu penjajahan” ini. Bukan dengan senjata, namun dengan budaya, atau permasalahan ekonomi. Hal ini mungkin jarang dialami oleh para wanita yang berada di sekitar perkotaan, namun para wanita yang berada di bagian pelosok Indonesia dihantui dengan kenyataan ini.

Pendidikan yang rendah, permasalahan ekonomi, hingga tradisi turun-temurun memaksa para wanita untuk memendam mimpinya untuk menjadi manusia yang lebih baik. Pernikahan dini menjadi salah satu dari sekian banyak permasalahan yang dihadapi oleh para perempuan remaja di daerah pelosok Indonesia. Beberapa orangtua mungkin berasumsi dengan menikahkan anak perempuannya, akan sedikit

Meringankan beban mereka. Pendidikan bagi anak perempuan menjadi cadangan nomor kesekian untuk diakses karena dianggap pendidikan tidak akan memberikan hasil yang signifikan bagi kemajuan ekonomi keluarga jika dimiliki oleh perempuan. Maka yang terjadi adalah banyak perempuan berusia dibawah 18 tahun yang terpaksa harus menikah karena berbagai faktor, seperti untuk membayar hutang, meringankan beban tanggungan keluarga, tradisi menikah muda dari kebudayaan dan sebagainya.

Data yang dirilis oleh UNICEF menunjukkan sekitar 1,3 juta perempuan di Indonesia telah menikah sebelum usianya 18 tahun pada 2012 dengan berbagai faktor pendorong seperti kondisi ekonomi serta akses pendidikan dan pengetahuan. Hal ini menjadi masalah karena masa muda yang seharusnya dugunakan untuk belajar sebanyak-banyaknya dan mengeksplor dirinya, malah harus terkekang oleh kewajiban setelah menikah tanpa tahu kondisi yang akan dihadapi selanjutnya.

Dengan tidak adanya persiapan yang matang serta pendidikan dan pengetahuan yang memadai, hal ini tentunya akan berdampak kepada masalah psikis remaja yang cenderung labil. Tidak adanya pengetahuan seperti pengelolaan keuangan, urusan rumah tangga serta pengambilan keputusan menjadikan kondisi rumah tangga tersebut bukanlah menjadi lingkungan yang baik bagi anggota keluarga di dalamnya karena ketidaksiapan dalam membangun keluarga.

Bahkan kehidupan yang lebih baik seperti mendapatkan pekerjaan dan penghidupan yang layak bagi para wanita untuk masa depannya tidak bisa didapatkan akibat tidak dapat meneruskan pendidikannya terlebih dahulu. Alhasil, hal ini juga akan berdampak pada generasi selanjutnya. Jika dibiarkan, roda kemiskinan dan tradisi pernikahan di usia dini tanpa persiapan ini akan terus berputar dan berulang hingga generasi selanjutnya.

 

Dengan pendidikan yang layak serta kesempatan untuk mendapatkan haknya, wanita mampu berkontribusi dalam perekonomian keluarga dan menyiapkan dirinya untuk mengatur masa depannya saat membangun keluarga kelak, serta menjadi perempuan yang cerdas dalam mendidik generasi penerus bangsa selanjutnya. Wanita juga dapat ikut serta dalam usaha pertumbuhan ekonomi negara dengan kontribusinya melalui pajak penghasilan dari pekerjaan yang didapatkan sehingga pendidikan yang dimiliki menjadi bermanfaat bagi orang-orang disekitarnya.

Good Bye Intake 35! Bright Future are Ahead of You!

On Saturday, July 7, 2018, the students of Bali WISE, the staff as well as teachers had a great event to recall. It was the Graduation Ceremony for the Intake 35 students. The ceremony was held at Community Environment & Skills Center. This regular event is held once in three months in which the students already passed the basic and vocational phases. The ceremony was started by the speeches delivered by Mr. Mike O’Leary as the CEO of Bali WISE by R.O.L.E Foundation and Miss Fena as the Education Coordinator. The event was continued by the handing over the graduation certificate to the graduated students. They had the congratulatory words from all the guests. Besides, some students got the additional gifts as they already got a job before they graduated from Bali WISE.. Everything went well as the representative of intake 36 showed some vocal group and speech. The last session was the after party in which the students and guests enjoyed the dinner and good time together. It was a warm and gladdens moment for both the graduated students and the guests. The students will face their future confidently and grab their dreams!

Beach Clean Up With Coca Cola!

On Thursday, June 28, 2018, Bali WISE held “Beach Training” program. The training was located in Seminyak Beach. It is regularly joined by the Bali WISE students and the Coca-Cola’s beach cleaners. This program aims to train the beach cleaners to utilize the scattered trash around the beach. At first, the students took part in explaining about the waste management and recycling program. Next, the students were divided into 2 groups along with the beach cleaners. Each group designed and made some useful stuff from the trash. The first group made bird cage and bag from used cardboard. Meanwhile, the second group made ashtray, trash bin and frames from used cans, newspapers and plastic bottles. At the end of training, each group presented their creation and used them for the next training enhancement.

Bali WISE Art Performance Night

On Thursday, June 28, 2018, Bali WISE staff and students had the special event to recall. The students intake 36 held the Art Performance Show at Bali WISE Campus. They were divided into 5 groups who brought their own performances. The theme was Strong Woman and Creativity. Each group showed the some types of performance such as singing, dancing and acting. They were shown in the traditional and modern ways. It focused on how they delivered the message to be strong women and stay creative on any things they do. Besides, they also brought the reminder to love the tradition in arts. Both the students and audiences enjoyed the show. The big applause was brought up to all the groups with their spirit and wide creativity in performing it. Great job girls!
