After three months of hard work in their foundational classes, the time has finally come for the students of Intake 65 to prepare for their upcoming three-month internship period. This phase requires them to catch up on many things and learn rapidly as they finally step into a simulation of the real professional world.

To fully support them during this critical transition, it is essential to equip them with practical life skills beyond their standard curriculum. Recognizing this, Bali WISE collaborated with representatives from the Nusa Dua Police to host a vital workshop focused on the dangers of narcotics and the importance of safe riding. This initiative is crucial, as the professional environment is not immune to the threats of drug abuse, and the students will also be commuting independently throughout their training. The session was a great success, with all students listening to the material with immense enthusiasm.

Navigating the Realities and Prevention of Drug Abuse

The first session was opened directly by the Commander of the Nusa Dua Police, who presented on the critical dangers of narcotics. He began by defining what narcotics are and explaining the underlying factors that lead individuals to drug abuse.

To provide a comprehensive understanding, the Commander detailed the various types of narcotics and their devastating side effects. Furthermore, he shed light on the common tactics used in drug trafficking and how individuals are often lured or pressured into drug consumption within their surroundings.

To visually drive the point home, he showcased the drastic physical changes that occur before and after drug addiction. Concluding the session, he shared practical and effective strategies students can use to protect themselves and prevent drug abuse.

Mastering Traffic Rules and Standard Driving Etiquette

In the second session, the community officer from the Nusa Dua Police took the stage to deliver a vital lesson on safe riding. He kicked off the session by asking the students how many of them already knew how to ride a motorcycle or drive other vehicles. From there, he walked them through various traffic signs, detailing their different types and meanings.

The officer then explained the proper rules of conduct for driving safely on public roads, highlighting the essential, standard-compliant safety gear every rider must wear. To keep the session interactive, he asked the students a candid question about whether any of them had ever broken a traffic rule or ignored proper safety gear. A few students shyly raised their hands in response. With great care and understanding, the officer explained the risks involved and warmly encouraged all students to strictly follow traffic regulations for their own safety and peace of mind on the road.

A Holistic Approach to Student Safety and Success

These two workshops are incredibly valuable for the students as they prepare for their upcoming training. The threat of narcotics can emerge anywhere and at any time, regardless of an individual’s background. Through this workshop, students are expected to independently recognize and avoid narcotics, as well as the various deceptive tactics used in drug abuse.

Similarly, the safe riding session is vital because, over the next three months, these young individuals will be commuting daily to their training sites on their own. By providing them with this essential knowledge, they can become more aware and cautious on the road, strictly obeying traffic rules and consistently wearing standard safety gear.

This initiative reflects Bali WISE’s continuous commitment to fully equipping Intake 65 for their training period. With this strong foundation, the students are expected to independently shield themselves from the lurking dangers of narcotics, while successfully practicing road safety throughout their entire internship journey.
